Alion Wins Air Force Contract

Potentially Worth $8.6M to Support Electronic Warfare Planning and Development

The Air Force has awarded Alion Science and Technology, an employee-owned technology solutions provider in McLean, Va., an incrementally funded contract with a total ceiling of $8.6 million to assess shortfalls in future weapons systems and to plan, develop and analyze Air Force electronic warfare capabilities.

Under the auspices of Alion-operated Weapon Systems Technology Information Analysis Center (WSTIAC), Alion will provide the Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) and Air Force Electronic Warfare (EW) Life Cycle Management Group (LCMG) with EW research and associated technical analysis to enable capability planning, development analysis and sustainment. The results will help the Air Force make key decisions regarding system modifications; changes in doctrine; operating concepts; training; logistics; personnel; and facilities for new and existing capabilities across all current and future missions.

"Alion team members will assess future weapons capability shortfalls and develop capability concepts to support the Air Force strategic planning process," said Chris Amos, Alion Senior Vice President and Manager of the Technology Solutions Group. "Results of this effort will provide a valuable compilation of knowledge for the Air Force and other DoD activities. The Global War on Terror is depending on work under this contract."

Under the three-year contract, Alion and a team of subcontractors will support AFMC as it provides system design and critical technologies to warfighters.

The military relies on state-of-the-art electronic offensive and defensive capabilities included in the specialized capability known as EW, which enhances air and space functions. EW is critical to the military's ability to find, fix, track, target, engage and assess the adversary while denying the adversary the same ability. The WSTIAC works hand-in-hand with the Air Force in the development and acquisition of EW systems and associated capabilities.
